SOUTH BEACH HOTEL SERVES AS SAFE REFUGE MIAMI BEACH, FL, AUGUST 24TH: In order to promote safer roads, and prevent poor judgments by South Beach partiers who have had one – or perhaps several - too many, the Century Hotel is partnering with local bars and restaurants to keep the tipsy safe. The Century is providing a promotional rate of $69 designed to keep these people off the road, and to provide a safe outlet for barkeeps and restaurant managers for those that should not be driving home. This Century promotion includes a cab ride to the door and an affordable room for the night.
“By providing an affordable place to sleep it off, the Century is helping local businesses who may not be able to sell a drunk on the idea of a $300 room next door,” said West Tucker, owner, “but may be able to sell them on a cheap room at a boutique hotel that will even pick up the cab cost in order to keep them off the road.”
The promotion, called “Drinkers Rally Under the Neon of the Century” or just “DRUNC”, provides a hotline number for bar, restaurant and club personnel to call and provide the Century the name of the individual or group from which they have taken the keys. The Century personnel will contact a cab driver who will get the individual from the nightspot, and deliver them to the Century at the Century’s expense. For just $69 dollars, party-goers can get a good night’s sleep, a noon check-out, continental breakfast, and some delicious Italian coffee.
The idea is catching on at local beverage establishments. Stephan Morris, general manager at South Beach hotspot Rokbar, says that this project picks up at the point where a barkeep’s responsibility ends. “Once you have taken the keys from your customer, then what?” Mr. Morris said. “This gives my staff a good answer to that question. We are doing the customer a favor, but we have liability to consider also.”
“I consider it a win for everybody,” Mr. Tucker said. “bartenders have a goto place to call; law-enforcement wins with one less driver over the limit on the road. Even the customer wins. Either they play safe or someone has looked out for them and they wake up in a beautiful art deco hotel. And sure, The Century wins too. We just sold a room that would otherwise go unoccupied. But more important we have provided safety, and introduced our value to a stranger. Sometimes we have often earned a guest -- and maybe even a friend -- for life.”

A lovely and family friendly park, especially in the morning and during the week days. The view is incredible, and the lowered water levels allows you to walk out into the water for quite a ways. This is the famed location of the pier and rocks where you can jump into the ocean, neighboring the Fisher Island private beaches. It's the south end relaxed flavor with the South Beach style!
